I have read blogs posted by people that say that the Bible never actually teaches that the Trinity exist. They say "Sure you can make inferences, use context clues, and look at the signs that Jesus performed but it never really claims the Trinity as a complete truth.
I want to be very clear of my viewpoint here: The Trinity of God exist. The Trinity if you're new to Christianity is the belief that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one. They exist as three person in one. How does this work exactly ....I don't know. I will however provide my proof for the existence of the Trinity and how it works in a round about way.
Here we go....
Bart Erhman a professor from UNC Chapel Hill has a new book out claiming that gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke never really present Jesus as God.Only in the gospel of John does Jesus make the big claims of being God. His claim is that the gospel of John was written much later and that the myth, rumor, or legend had already become popular so that is the way that John wrote it. This clearly overlooks passages like the ones below, take a look ....
Matthew 10: 37
Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
#1- Jesus doesn't say love and obey God here, He says love and obey ME. He puts himself on the same playing field as God. So either He is God as He says He is or a terrible blasphemer.
#2- The claim Jesus makes above is unbelievable because He puts Himself right at the center of our FAITH & Relationships.
Matthew 5: 21-22
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder,a]" >[a] and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a causeb]" >[b] shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.
Matthew 5: 27-28
27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old,a]" >[a] ‘You shall not commit adultery.’b]" >[b] 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:31-32
31 “Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immoralitya]" >[a] causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
I know that is a lot to read but Jesus said many times of which I only posted a few. You have heard it said..... He here is referring to the Ten Commandments and the Laws that GOD gave Moses and the Israelites.
So.... How does this mean Jesus is God?
Jesus edits God. How would He have the audacity to do something like that if He were not God. Jesus in one sermon changes the Law of God that existed from the time from Moses to Jesus.
Lets look at another idea/ proposal...
Mark 2: 5
When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
Jesus here forgives sins. Question? Who are sins against? Answer- God. Sins can be committed against other people but the only one who has the power to eternal judge us is God. So how can Jesus say to a man who has never sinned against Him personally, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." He can't say this unless ....wait for it.... Jesus is God!
Imagine my brother walks up and hits me, blacks my eye, puts me on the ground. [He would never do this ...well maybe when we were younger.] However two minutes later my wife walks up to my brother and says "I forgive you." My wife can't forgive my brother because he didn't sin against her.
Third idea ....
This proposal is probably the most convincing proposal or idea that there is for Jesus and God being one. At the end of the day, why would God create someone else to die for my sins. If God did this, here is what is going to happen, I know that I'm supposed to love God above all else [Luke 4:8, Deuteronomy 6:13, Exodus 20:3] but I'm going to end up loving the one who saved my soul, which was Jesus. That is going to put Him in competition to the true God of the universe, and God would never let that happen. The true God wants to be worshiped as Most High, Chief in our affections, loved by us most.
Isaiah 43:11
I, even I, am the Lord,
And besides Me there is no savior.
Isaiah 42:8
I am the Lord, that is My name;
And My glory I will not give to another
God would never let Jesus willingly, blatantly, and without reproach to steal His glory, unless Jesus is God. God said besides Me there is no savior, who died for our sins, who saved us, who tore the veil between us... that's right ...Jesus. Jesus must be God because He is the savior and God said besides me there is no savior.
How about a blatantly obvious proposal....
John 10:30
I and My Father are one.
Jesus answers the question in the temple about whether or not He is the Christ.
Last pitch ...
Jesus drives out unlawful, greedy merchants out of the Temple and they get angry. They want to know what authority He has to do this? His reply is well known..
John 2:18-19
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Alright in the Old Testament what is the Temple? What made the temple the temple? The fact that God resided there. So what is Jesus saying. I am the Temple, I'm God. He refers to His body as the Temple
Finish....
Bart Erhman says that the Bible was written by Jesus' admirers. However he is wrong, the Bible was written by Jesus' worshipers. The Bible message from start to finish is worship only God, then Jesus comes along and says that's Me.
